Dachshunds are characterised by their long bodies, short legs, and distinctive elongated heads. They come in three coat varieties: smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired, each with its own unique charm. Their coats can be found in a variety of colors and patterns, including red, black and tan, chocolate, and dapple.

Originally bred to hunt small game, they are natural burrowers and have a strong prey drive.
