Breed Guide: Dachshunds
Dachshunds are known for their spirited and independent personalities. Despite their affectionate nature towards their families, they also have a stubborn streak and can be quite determined when they set their minds to something.
This combination of intelligence and determination makes them both charming and sometimes challenging companions.
Appearance
Dachshunds are characterised by their long bodies, short legs, and distinctive elongated heads. They come in three coat varieties: smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired, each with its own unique charm. Their coats can be found in a variety of colors and patterns, including red, black and tan, chocolate, and dapple.
Fearless Hunters
Despite their small size, Dachshunds possess a fearless and tenacious spirit, inherited from their hunting ancestry. Originally bred to hunt small game, they are natural burrowers and have a strong prey drive. This instinct can sometimes manifest in behaviors such as digging and chasing small animals, so early socialization and training are important to manage these tendencies.
