Common Questions

About our dog food

How much should I feed my dog?

Every dog has different needs, but here is our feeding guide with recommendations based on weight:

Please drop us a message through the website on the above page if keen for more information.

Is this food suitable for puppies?

We have our puppy recipe which is suitable for puppies all the way through until they are 12 months old. Here's the link to our puppy taster pack:

https://petslovefresh.com/collections/all/products/taster-pack-puppy

Our adult food is good for puppies that are 12 weeks and older. Very young pups need a higher fat content than we have in our adult food. Our adult food is fantastic on the protein front (we have 70% human grade chicken), as we not only have really high quality meat going in, but we gently cook it at a low temperature for over four hours so it is delicious and tender, it also means it is really easy to digest (and there's no risk of any nasty bacteria that could harm young dogs).

What should I do once I have cut open the chub?

Once you have opened the pack and there is a portion that is unused, place it gently in your glass fridge chub container and store in your fridge, ready to serve fresh at your dog’s next mealtime. Once defrosted, our food has a five day 'fridge life'.

Is a home cooked diet a better option than raw, kibbles or tins?

Home cooked diets are undoubtedly better than a dry food or canned diet. However, aside from the fact that many of us live busy lives where cooking for our dog is not always practicable, the main downside of home cooked diets is that owners do not balance their dogs diet properly as dogs have different nutritional requirements to humans.

Why is Pets Love Fresh better than other dog foods?

Pets Love Fresh has been developed to provide as much nutritional benefit for dogs as possible. This is achieved by sourcing human grade natural high quality ingredients and then cooking at a low temperature so that the food retains as much of the goodness as possible.

This is in direct contrast to kibbles and tinned foods that are cooked at high temperatures to extend shelf life and consequently retain little nutritional value. PetsLoveFresh also solves the problems being experienced with raw based diets where dogs are exposed to dangerous bacteria and diseases as well as not eating balanced diets including low grade proteins and faddy fillers 'think carrots and peas' which cause increased instances of allergies.

How should I transition my dog to Pets Love Fresh?

It’s still important to transition slowly so the change is gentle on your pet’s tummy; we recommend doing so gradually over a period of 7-10 days. Start by feeding both PetsLoveFresh and your pet’s current food, and increase the amount of PetsLoveFresh every few days, while decreasing your pet’s current food. Then enjoy the change in your pet’s appetite at feeding time, and the lasting benefits you’ll notice from our nutritionally balanced meals.

How do I store Pets Love Fresh?

We will deliver your food frozen or slightly thawed. We'd recommend that you store the food in the freezer, then each time you need a chub of food for your dog, you put it in the fridge to thaw out overnight, ready to eat the next day.

Once the food has thawed, it has a 5 day shelf life in the fridge.

Once served, how long should I leave Pets Love Fresh in my dog’s bowl?

We recommend that you do not leave the food in the bowl for longer than 2-3 hours, although your dog will have most likely eaten everything up by then.

Is Pets Love Fresh Organic?

Pets Love Fresh is not organic but we have sourced from trusted British suppliers to ensure the highest quality ingredients. Few, if any, pet foods are 100% organic (even those that claim to be “organic”) due to difficulty in sourcing organic ingredients, particularly when it comes to vitamins and minerals that dogs need. Our focus is on finding the highest quality, freshest, all natural ingredients.

Payment information

How frequently will my card be charged?

Your card is charged with the frequency that you set your deliveries to be. So for instance, if you have requested your food to be delivered to you fortnightly, then your card will be charged every fortnight in line with your deliveries.

Can I update my card information?

Yes, if your card is expiring or you simply wish to change your payments to a new card, this is very easy. Simply log in to your account, then under your settings, you will see the option to add in a new card. You will have to authorise a new payment plan, but this is very quick and simple.

Can I stop payments?

Yes, if you want to stop your subscription, you can do this through your account area. Simply login and then you will see the option to cancel your account. Please ensure that you do this at least 2 days prior to your next delivery of food so that we are 100% sure not to send you any more food.

Another option is just to pause deliveries (maybe you are going away on holiday). This is all done through your members area.

How long does it take for my food to arrive?

We send our food directly from our farm to your home on DPD’s next day delivery service, so it should always be within 24 hours. We also send the food out in insulated woollen (compostable) pouches, so it should arrive to you still frozen or only partially defrosted (the core of the chubs will still be frozen).

DPD collect from our farm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Any orders placed on these days before 10am should arrive the next day.

Orders placed after 10am on a Friday will be sent out from the farm on Sunday or Monday (arriving on Monday or Tuesday).

My food has partially defrosted is this ok?

Absolutely, we send our food out in insulated boxes and when you open up the box you should see that the food is either still completely frozen or partially frozen.

If the food is partially frozen on arrival (i.e. partially defrosted) it is still 100% fine to freeze and use in the fridge as per normal (you may need to cut through a chub to see if still frozen in the middle - or if wanting to be more scientific stick a thermometer in it).

If it has fully defrosted, then please get in touch with us.

We send the food out at -19 degrees in the insulated liners, so even if the food partially defrosts on the outside edge, in the core it should still be frozen and the overall temperature in the packs won't get above 3/4 degrees celsius if still in the wool liners.

We have stress tested the food at various temperatures for 1 - 8 days to check the bacteria / microbial activity to be 100% sure that it is safe in different conditions that we recommend.

I’m not happy with what was delivered, what should I do?

If you aren’t 100% happy with what was delivered, please get in touch with us through the Contact Us page, we’ll do our best to ensure we reply to you within 24 hours to try and ensure that you are 100% satisfied with the outcome (either a full refund or more food on it's way, whichever you'd prefer).

My package hasn't arrived to the right address?

DPD send out notifications (the day before and on the day), so please use their emails and text messages to inform them if the delivery has gone to the wrong address. Often, if they are notified quickly their driver can rectify the problem straight away and go back and collect the pack and get it redelivered to the correct address.

We have limited powers at our end to manage this once the food has gone out from the farm. If however, it can't be resolved immediately by DPD, please get in touch and we'll organise a replacement pack to be sent out asap.

My food says delivered, but I haven't received it?

Sometimes DPD deliver packs to the wrong addresses (by mistake) or if they have actually had to recall the pack (due to delays their end), they often put 'delivered to dispose' which is really confusing.

It is worth just opening up the link in their emails or text messages and seeing the details they give for where the food has gone to. Please also drop us a message through the website with your order number and we'll do everything we can from our end.
